ALBANIA TOUR (TIRANA) WITH MH TRAVEL AGENCY
DAILY EXCURSION FROM MONTENEGRO TO ALBANIA...DEPARTURES FROM KOTOR, BUDVA, and PODGORICA...HIGHLIGHTS: THE CENTER OF TIRANA...DURATION: 12-15 HOURS...TICKET PRICE €50.00 (from Podgorica), €55.00 (from Budva), €60.00 (from Kotor)
For guests who prefer visiting the capitals, the Albania Tour in Tirana is the perfect choice as it focuses only on the center of the city, which makes enough time for exploring the main attractions in the city center, having lunch, or shopping without rushing. Walking distance from one attraction to another is mainly centered around Skanderbeg Square (1 square kilometer). This is not a guided tour in Tirana with a detailed explanation of all attractions. Our guide will give the most important tips for exploring the city center and then guests can explore it freely as they like. One can be surprised by the pleasant colors in the city, the differences between super modern buildings to traditional ones, and the artistic places on every corner (frescoes, statues, fountains, monuments, etc.). If you decide to take this tour, you will spend a nice and fulfilling day, primarily thanks to the nice atmosphere in the city center and the affordable prices in restaurants and shops. Welcome!
WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE START?
The tour departs from Kotor at 8:00 in the morning, which is the standard time for all our trips. After a maximum of 45 minutes of driving, we will arrive in Budva, where we will pick up guests. We will arrive in Podgorica 60 minutes later, picking up the guests and continuing our journey. If guests take the private tour we will pick up them from their accommodations.
The departure point in Kotor is from the ECO petrol gas station next to the main bus station.
The departure point in Budva is from the ECO petrol gas station next to the hotel Slovenska Plaža
The departure point in Podgorica is from the PETROL gas station next to the main bus station.
NOTE: MH Travel Agency is the only one that organizes excursions to Albania departures from Kotor, but guests should be aware that a tour can last up to 15 hours. Because of that, it is not recommended for small kids. If we don't have guests from Podgorica on the tour, we will go straight to the Sukobin border crossing, much closer to the cities of Kotor and Budva.
WHERE WE WILL GO?
We will go to the city center of Tirana.
After crossing the border, we will take a 30-minute break in the restaurant near the main road. We should save every precious minute on this tour. If we spend more time at the border, the break will be shorter. Then we will continue towards Tirana, the city of half of million inhabitants. Driving from the suburb to the city center lasts 30 minutes. In the suburban areas, street trades in the traditional way still exist as well as brick buildings without facades built during the communist time.
We will park the vehicle at Bulevardi Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard between the famous Pyramid of Tirana and the Taiwan Complex located in the Youth Park, which is the starting and central point of exploring the city. The Boulevard (less than 1 km long) finishes at Nanë Theresa Square (Mother Teresa Square) and Grand Park in Tirana with a smaller artificial lake. Just a few hundred meters up from our starting point is the Skanderbeg Square surrounded by National Museum, Opera House, a bigger bunker, and several colorful buildings 100 years old where are different ministers and government houses.
During communist leader Enver Hoxha, who was head of state from 1944 to 1985, Albania was very closed. Hoxha was obsessed with the idea that a new great war will come and he ordered the construction of 170,000 bunkers across the country to protect Albania from ground attacks. But the new war has never happened, so the bunkers have remained only as a tourist attraction. Most of the bunkers were demolished, and some became restaurants, souvenir shops, or art workshops. Several bunkers still exist in the center of Tirana where guests can enter and take a look. The largest and most visited is the Bunk'Art 2 on Skanderbeg Square.
Tirana is the last secret in Europe with its own local charm and local retailers that take you back to a time when cities were slower and not so generic. The people of Tirana are pleasant, and hospitable, and will help you if you have any questions. Apart from Albanian, most people speak Italian well and then English.
After the end of the communist rule in 1990, many artists wanted to erase the communist darkness by painting the facades in vivid colors, which gave a new happier look. The city is safe and tourists are welcome. Some guests want to visit Dajti National Park close to Tirana and go back by cable car to enjoy the amazing panoramic view. This is possible but in that case, we cannot stay in the city center longer than 90 minutes.
The main attractions on Skanderbeg Square are the National History Museum, Et'hem Bay Mosque, Bunk'Art 2, TID Tower (the tallest building in Tirana), Opera, City Hall, Clock Tower, Kombëtar Theater, attractive yellow-green-orange buildings of several ministries (finance, interior, transport, infrastructure, and energy) and the Orthodox Cathedral.
Walking along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, guests will see Rinia Park with the Independence Monument, the National Art Gallery, the Taiwan Shopping Center, the Pyramid, Lena River, Mother Teresa Square where the University of Tirana is located, and Grand Park with the zoo and the artificial lake, where guests can have lunch in the shade of the trees.
Guests who prefer the city view can walk to the Sky Tower near the pedestrian zone and have lunch on the top-floor terrace enjoying the refreshing air. But those looking to explore more can sit in some of the many cafes and restaurants near the Sky Tower and the river Lena.
The maximum time that we can spend in Tirana is 4 hours, after which we will return to Podgorica, Budva, and Kotor. We will carefully monitor the situation at the border and in the event that there is a wait at the border for more than an hour, we will start the tour an hour earlier.
The tour is organized by middle-class air-conditioned cars or minibusses. Our tour to Tirana goes directly via border crossings Bozaj(MNE)/ Hani i Hotit (AL) close to the city of Podgorica. If we will have only guests from Kotor and Budva (not from Podgorica), we will go directly via border crossings Sukobin(MNE)/ Muriqan (AL), close to the city of Ulcinj.
Albania is not part of the European Union, so the Schengen Visa is not required.
The price of the private tour is per car, not per person. The maximum number of guests in the car is 4. The private tour from Kotor costs 240 euros, from Budva is 220 euros, and from Podgorica is 200 euros. Private tours can depart any day.
We give a discount for groups of more than 10 people.
Licensed tour guide in the English language.
THE PRICE DOESN'T INCLUDE
Guests can use their own food and drink (breakfast and lunch are not mandatory).
NOTE: Guests who want to bring their luggage on the tour and finish the tour in another city (Kotor or Budva or Podgorica) can easily do that, in the case that we will have guests from all 3 cities on the tour. There is no luggage fee.
